I guess I will add more to this an address it publicly. Everyone in the CPA Industry seems to have an opinion and with having an opinion comes voicing your say whenever you feel like. First off, let me explain a little bit of my background so that we are clear.

I started out as a publisher and I was referred to many networks. For the sake of this conversation pointed at my network, I wont name or out any other networks. I was referred to many networks whom I worked with as a publisher and I’ve also been in the situation of being asked to move off my referrer because of the volume I was producing and the missing percentages I could be getting extra.

Moving along, I was a blogger for sometime with my own forum as well and drove a lot of referrals to many networks as well. I’ve seen my referrals taken out from under me with no messages and I have also been told by publishers who I referred that they were moving to a clean account to get a better percentage.

I for one have been on both ends of it, and I never once had a problem with it. If someone was going to make more money at the cost of me not making a referral commission, so be it. I never looked at it as “oh I helped this person to start making money in the first place, they owe me” type of deal. If someone took action on what I told them and DIDNT get as much money as possible, then I would be the first to tell them that.

Upon becoming a network owner, I’m one that is looked at and expected to deliver everything that is deserving to publishers and going above that (when possible) because as being a former publisher I know that a solid publisher base is good fuel for network growth. Sometimes a decision is made that is not going to sit well with some people and other times it is going to make others ecstatic.

In the specific case of Convert2Media while it may not sit well with you now, after the changes that are made in the near future we know it will make 99% of the publisher base happy. Knowing you cannot satisfy everyone in this business calls for a set of balls some dont seem to have when making decisions. The ramifications of bad press from people who do not work with Convert2Media is meaningless. I’ve never been one to give a shit what others thought. If I did, I probably would have never came online in the first place.

So while some view it as dirty, hell maybe even ethical, at least I told it how it is. You go to your favorite network and inquire about it. Better yet, wait for your favorite network owner to come out of the woodworks and have the balls to lay it out the way it is.

It’s business. Networks are here to make money. Publishers and advertisers are here to make money. Every network has a different set of management. This shit has been going on forever and it wasnt until the day one of the network owners made a change and said it the way it is that some decided it was wrong.

A cut to 2% was better than nothing at all which was the idea in the first place. Maybe it’s the same ole persona that Convert2Media is just another network. I’ll enlighten you to say that Convert2Media is not dependent on referrals. While those are great, the referral percentage is SO low at C2M that I’m truly surprised to see so much chatter about it. However, I would like to personally thank all who have chatted about it today. We are having one of our largest days of applications since this. One must have forgot that bad press is still….press. Another reason why is that most people dont give a shit about referrals anyway. Referrals are a tactic networks use for publisher growth. If your business is not reliant on referrals you will continue to grow anyway. I’ve seen so many networks bashed in the past for all sorts of reasons and decisions. The fact of the matter is this.

We help publishers make money. Plain and simple. No matter what anyone says, the guys making money are going to indirectly drive their buddies to you no matter what. We will continue to grow and sometimes people are going to disagree with decisions made.

  • You cant satisfy everyone
  • Networks will ALWAYS try to get you off a referrer
  • At least I told you the way it is

Take from it what you will. I might seem like the meanest SOB ever but the publishers who DO work with Convert2Media know that I am going to continue helping them make money. There will be bumps in the road, no person and no business is perfect. At least I am honest about it.

The thing is you stated to publishers pushing your referral link that they would get 5% for the LIFE of the affiliate, now you back out on your end. That’s where I dont see it as the proper thing to do, whats gonna happen to the other promises you make? I guess I (along many others) will have to doubt these as well now untill you prove your honest reputation again :/

Of course it matters. We satisfied most with this decision and we pissed some off I would imagine. I have yet to receive any messages of anyone requesting us to terminate their account or not wanting to work with us anymore other than your comments here.

Even our largest referral publisher by over 75% had this to say:

I have not referred anyone, and most likely will not do so. However it bothers me that you promised something then renig on it, makes me wonder what else you will renig on in the future…my comish check? I doubt it cause I wont be running traffic your way to find out.
