I am on that site constantly. I especially like their "Widget" that you can add into your blog posts for a nice backlink. Plus, if you backlink directly to one of their stories, your blog link shows up at the bottom of their blog post. You'll get some insane traffic if you're one of the first ones to link back and you come up with an outrageous title for your post. That's one of the reasons I started covering "tech news" on my blog. Good call on TechCrunch. I am on that site constantly.
