Are You Losing Impressions By Adding Keywords?

Posted by: Ruck under Affiliates

I would suppose you have been to that point in a Search Marketing Campaign where you have weeded out the crap keywords and mined the data down to only finding the keywords that convert profitably for you. During this time you are probably thinking on how to scale the campaign further to extend the profit margins. One of the mistakes a lot of new Pay Per Click Marketers make is not understanding the small things like the mechanics and workings of a Google Adwords Account.

Here’s a little tip:

After mining non-performing keywords and only settling for the converting keywords it’s now time to start the process all over again in search of even more lucrative terms. When doing this you can go about it with a multitude of options but for the novice, they are likely to not have a couple of dozen PPC accounts. Generally, they will have one and work thru the woes of the Adwords Accounts mechanics. One question that I have seen repeated time and time again is:

I added more keywords to my campaign, but now my impressions and clicks and profit are down for the keywords that I already had running, what happened and how do I fix it?

The simple scenario here is that when you added more keywords, you probably forgot to allocate your budget accordingly to reflect and adjust to the new keywords. By simply upping your budget each time you add more keywords, you will start to get a feel on how much you need to go up each time.

Each keywords is different and hardly any (if any) are created equal. By doing proper keyword research at the beginning you should have a general idea based on your keyword generation methods and the historical performance of your ongoing campaign to identify and help determine what you should raise your budget up to. Upping your budget should get you back on track to getting those previous impressions back and make way for you to test your new set of keywords.

Tip Tuesday – Using Social Media As An Advertising Source

Posted by: Ruck under Affiliates

Social Media Carrying over the initial discussion post in the Affiliate Training Center, I wanted to continue on and explain some of the aspects and benefits of using Social Media with CPA Marketing.

The main reason I use them is to get around the Facebook Ad Approvals ( or disapprovals to be honest). I really dont know what is going on there but when I really think about it, they must have hired some of the most inexperienced people to ever work in advertising. Aside from the fact that they are trying to protect their userbase (yea, I get that) I think they do it on purpose. If they wanted to really protect their users then they would not allow so many spamholes to be flowing throughout their network.

Anyway…

Facebook nukes ads. They do it with a passion. One way to get around this is to realize that not all Advertisers are created equal. I’ve seen Adbrite ads, Microsoft ads and of course Social Media ads flowing thru Facebook with some of the crappiest and sometimes “dirtiest” ads I have seen. How do they get away with it? Big and reputable companies such as these do not get the same restrictions just because of the amount of dollars they put into Facebook. Use this to your advantage and make it easier on yourself.

Of course we dont want to give up on Facebook completely so if your a die-hard Facebook advertiser then using Social Media will only help increase the exposure you have already created for yourself. Here are a few tips to use when using Social Media as an advertising source. Keep in mind that they do serve ads to Facebook, Bebo, Myspace and Hi5 currently. You can also geo-target by country.

You can literally get a ton of traffic fast. You can burn dollars FAST. Use some of these tips to help maximize your returns and you should be able to make some easy money.

1. Single most important thing – Tell people what to do in your ads. Let’s face it. Your ads are going to show up in some really shitty places. One example is that on Facebook App pages your ad is located above the application. A lot of times people mistake the button and think they are installing the application when they are really clicking on your ad! How pissed would this make you? Tell people EXACTLY what you want them to do in the ad.

2. Your call to action on the button – On the last line of creating a Social Media campaign you have the call to action which actually resembles a button. People mistake this for installations of the applications and tend to click on it and only end up with an advertisement they were not planning on. This is wasted dollars. Instead of saying “click here” “continue now” or something lame like that, put something such as “Enter Email Now”, “Enter Zipcode Now” or even “Get Free Trial”. This little tip alone will save you a bunch of potential wasted ad dollars.

3. Know the demographics of the sites your going to advertise on. Jeez, this should have been first probably but if your not mining data and demographics on potential sites you want ads on then you dont belong in advertising in the first place. Use sites such as Quantcast, Compete or even Alexa and start gathering as much data as you can on percentages of sexes, ages and whatever else you can come up with. Although, you cannot choose what Apps to advertise on at least you are armed with some information to tell you a lot about the demographics of the people visiting these sites.

Understand Your Audience, The Art Of Polling

Posted by: Ruck under Affiliates

1

There is a specific art to polling. I’m talking about comparing 1, 2 or more things such as celebrities, video games, movies or anything else to entice socialization from people clicking over to your landing page, participating in a poll and if you’re like me, most likely ending up on a related offer page. The whole idea of a poll as a CPA Marketer is to get inside people’s interest, offer them to pick their choice, and then redirect them onto an offer that is closely related to whatever got them to the previous poll landing page.

This is where people go wrong…

The days of Apple iphone’s, ipod nano’s, and things that are immensely popular are over. If you are still having success with this, then more power to you. There are much simpler ways to make money with polls, and hopefully after this, you will try it for yourself and see.

To make the most of your polls and get the most targeted of prospects clicking over to your pages you have to poll something that is of interest to them right? That part is simple since there is millions of things you can poll. However, if you want to get the most bang for your buck, I would suggest trying this.

Poll two offer related things. What I am saying is that if you have a Mac Makeup offer and a Revlon Makeup offer, then make a poll that asks the user to choose their favorite. Instead of promoting just one off for either choice, now you have the option of promoting an offer for each. Whoever is clicking over to the poll and choosing the makeup they like best is going to be a lot more targeted than some 16 year old that is voting between Transformers and the Dark Knight for a chance at an iPhone.

See where I am going with this? To stay relevant and run your polls in the search engines you would have to write some text about Transformers and the Dark Knight which could possibly take away the attention of your prospect. If you know anything about market research then you should know that the attention span of someone clicking over to a poll like that is probably in the general web surfing state of mind. I call these tirekickers and money flushers. You might as well wash your dollar bills and hard work down the drain. If it’s profitable, it wont be for long.

If we poll two types of makeup we open ourselves up for polls striving for longetivity and a bit more consistency. We know women go goo-goo ga-ga over makeup (sry ladies!). People love to vote, especially in the US. They just cant stop themselves. Women love to vote and they are going to choose their favorite makeup and then be slapped with a chance at a free makeup kit (or whatever) that is the same type as the one they just chose. It does not get any simple than this.

Landing Page Metrics:

I never thought putting text that said “Vote now for an iphone” went over to well. As a matter of fact, most of the advertisers do not like this. It can be viewed as a slim form of incentivization and they hate it. Besides, the idea is to SURPRISE your voters. Surprising a 21 yr old female with a free makeup offer of the same brand she just voted for is far more efficient than presenting an iphone offer to a general web surfer who saw your ad on the keyword “transformers”. So dont put what your offering on the landing page. Surprise your prospects with something closely related and at the same time, you will stay in the good gracious of the advertiser and network you are getting paid from.

Traffic Tactics

This is a no-brainer. If you do not have an “email this link” on your poll page, then you are just killing yourself. It does not matter where you put the offer whether it be Paid Search, high traffic social networks, Yahoo Answers or whereever. If you dont have a way for other people to distribute your poll to others, then you are severly limiting the amount of income you could potentially make with the poll. Just imagine for a second that a Myspace user is surfing google and comes across your poll. They see it, they click on it, they see the poll and decide to send it to their friend list (which is say 1,000 people). This is how you make your polls go viral.

Sometimes I have had operated polls at a LOSS on google just because of this simple fact. I cannot stress this enough. Just put the link to your poll page ON your poll page and say something like “Share this poll with your friends by copying THIS link”. If you want to get crafty you can incorporate bookmarking buttons such as Facebook, Stumbleupon, Yahoo and ETC.

Setting up polls for profit IS a long term strategy in CPA Marketing but if you dont have the poll working for itself and becoming viral then chances are you are going to be one of those marketers who watches their Adwords Account like a hawk just so you know you are beating the margin.
